Question? How do I make a garment bigger or smaller with an existing pattern.
Answer. If you are knitting a Raglan style garment you are casting on for the back of the neck and the shoulder, half the distance round the neck. Then you simply continue the increase rouw/rounds until the distance betwen the back markerrs are equal to half the chest/bust measurements required, the underarm increases will allow ease. You will find that the increased row required to get the garment width will also increase the number of sleeve stitches, adjustments will be needed to sleeve length but it wil be found that the sleeve decreases on the longer sleeves will produce an acceptable cuff.
On a set in sleeve style of garment you are casting on the shoulder width, not including the arm, in this case the increase in the depth required to give a larger arm depth will result in a size increase for the sleeve top.
